چکیده

Abstract Objective. Motor imagery is the mental simulation of movements. It a common paradigm to design brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) that elicits modulation brain oscillatory activity similar real, passive and induced In this study, we used peripheral stimulation provoke movements one limb during performance motor tasks. Unlike other works, in which are support BCI operation, our goal was test improve robustness based systems perturbations caused by artificially generated Approach. We performed session with ten participants who carried out three limbs. some trials, arms moved neuromuscular stimulation. analysed 2-class classifications without movement perturbations. investigated decrease produced these disturbances designed different computational strategies attenuate observed classification accuracy drop. Main results. When not coincident classes, extracting sources imagination tasks resulted being control (undisturbed) condition; when also involved tasks, drop significantly alleviated spatially filtering neural noise show loss accompanied weaker power sensorimotor rhythm. Importantly, residual could be predict whether user will perform sufficient under disturbances. Significance. provide methods ameliorate even eliminate related afferent This can help improving reliability current systems.

Classification of EEG-based motor imagery BCI by using ECOC

AbstractAccuracy in identifying the subjects’ intentions for moving their different limbs from EEG signals is regarded as an important factor in the studies related to BCI. In fact, the complexity of motor-imagination and low amount of signal-to-noise ratio for EEG signal makes this identification as a difficult task. In order to overcome these complexities, many techniques such as variou...

Motor imagery.

We describe general concepts about motor imagery and differences to motor execution. The problem of controlling what the subject actually does during imagery is emphasized. A major part of the chapter is dealing with mental training by imagery and the usage of motor imagination in athletes, musicians and during rehabilitation. Data of altered representations of the body after loss of afferent i...

The relationship between corticospinal excitability during motor imagery and motor imagery ability.

It is commonly reported that transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) of the motor cortex during action observation and motor imagery results in increases in the amplitude of motor evoked potentials (MEPs) in muscles specific to the observed or imagined action. This study aimed to determine whether MEP amplitude was related to the motor imagery ability of participants. Participants were 15 healt...

Common Spatial Patterns Feature Extraction and Support Vector Machine Classification for Motor Imagery with the SecondBrain

Recently, a large set of electroencephalography (EEG) data is being generated by several high-quality labs worldwide and is free to be used by all researchers in the world. On the other hand, many neuroscience researchers need these data to study different neural disorders for better diagnosis and evaluating the treatment. However, some format adaptation and pre-processing are necessary before ...

Brain Activation in Primary Motor and Somatosensory Cortices during Motor Imagery Correlates with Motor Imagery Ability in Stroke Patients

Aims. While studies on healthy subjects have shown a partial overlap between the motor execution and motor imagery neural circuits, few have investigated brain activity during motor imagery in stroke patients with hemiparesis. This work is aimed at examining similarities between motor imagery and execution in a group of stroke patients. Materials and Methods. Eleven patients were asked to perfo...
